" Soles 4 Souls"

As some may know, the Elementary is doing a fundraiser called "Soles for Souls". This fundraiser gives shoes to needy kids. This really is a great fundraiser, Please... If you, or someone you know, has shoes that they don't wear, please bring them in. There really are people out there that need our help...

Footwear is a basic need that most of us take for granted every day. Americans have a surplus of footwear just sitting in our closets. Your time of simply cleaning out your closets can make a big difference in the life of someone in need.

For us, style is the main reason for the footwear we own. Some people own over fifty pairs, while many people around the world have none. For those without shoes, health care is the most important reason shoes are so desperately needed.

Please... Help the fifth graders help the world.

It's a known fact that Barack Obama is going to be President of the United States this coming January. People may not have wanted him to be, but he is, and hating him isn't going to do anything. We are a united country, we need to act like one. Complaining won't get us anywhere.

Obama Urges Congress to Move on Economic Plan

Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to get moving next week on an economic rescue plan that would extend jobless benefits among other actions.
"If Congress does not pass an immediate plan that gives the economy the boost it needs, I will make it my first order of business as president," Obama said in his Democratic Party's weekly radio address.
The radio address was also videotaped and posted online through a YouTube link to Obama's transition Web site, http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/ap/ap_on_el_pr/storytext/obama_economy/29892609/SIG=10n6oj80p;_ylt=AidCet19jfW5lsBrFx2r2yth24cA/*http://www.change.gov. The president-elect plans to continue to record online videos of the addresses after he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.
Obama said he was pleased President George W. Bush brought world leaders to Washington to discuss turmoil in the financial markets, "because our global economic crisis requires a coordinated global response."
Obama stressed the importance of creating jobs in the United States and helping to relieve the nation's economic distress.
Digging the country out of tough times will require people to pitch in and look after each other, in addition to long-term investments such as making health care affordable and rebuilding the nation's infrastructure, he said.
"Make no mistake: This is the greatest economic challenge of our times," Obama said. "And while the road ahead will be long, and the work will be hard, I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis because here in America we always rise to the moment, no matter how hard. And I am more hopeful than ever that America will rise once again."

My Week of No Technology

This past week I've gone without using technology unless necessary. This was a very big challenge for me. At my house, we are TV junkies. I don't even know how many hours a week I alone watch the tube. It's not right.

It has been scientifically proven that kids today spend more time with technology than they do socializing with other humans. We, as a country, are growing up socially disabled. It's like we are training ourselves to live in a shell.

Anyway, when I went home last Friday... I told my parents about the plan. They supported me 100%. For this past week none of our family has used unnecessary technology. It was hard t0 get used to at first. With there being no TV on, we all had a lot more time for other things. Most of us played games, did homework, or read. After the week was over... we all felt happier in a way. Board games help us use our brain. My family bonded a lot over those few days.

After one whole week went by, my entire family was happier. We ended up continuing the restricted use of technology. Yesterday my family spent six hours strait playing with Lego's. Not once during that time was the TV on. We had found a BETTER thing to do. It was a lot more fun than sitting on the couch for three hours strait. More families should try it, even if it is for just a week. I feel happier and more productive when I'm not sitting, staring at a screen for hours at a time.

I won't be updating all this week after tomorrow, cause I'm gonna see if I can go all week without using technology like: TV, Computer, I-Pod, or any gaming devices. Instead I'm going to read, play outside, or play games with my family...And focus on my school work.

New economic data provides growing evidence that the collapse of the housing market and financial markets have pushed the U.S. economy into recession. The question now on the minds of consumers (us), business owners and politicians: How bad is it going to be, and how long is it going to last?

What needs to be done to pick up this recession? This has now become a world wide issue, and it is effecting other countries as thier economy struggles. There's no doubt that somethings have to change.

-POLITICS- Every four years the people of our nation vote for who they want to be president. This November 4th we will have a chance again to vote for our president. Some people, I am afraid, don't take this as seriously as they should. When people think of the leader of our country, they think of the PRESIDENT. Being the president is a big title. Although the Congress controls most of the decisions in the government, it is the president that gets blamed or praised by those who may not know as much.

Now that "WE THE PEOPLE" have a chance to chose our "leader", who will we vote for. Some homes are strictly a certain party, and they won't ever vote for a person that isn't in that party. When we go to the polls, we shouldn't vote for a party, or even a candidate, we should vote for a good strong leader, someone that will do the best job.

One problem that almost every kid has, is listening, and believing anything anyone says. When we grow up, we gain the ability to think for ourselves. But, as the years go by, it seems even older kids aren't thinking for themselves. Now, don't get me wrong, not all kids and teens are this way. Some of us research, and we find our own facts about things such as politics. But, most kids today have lost their ability and want to think. It's Appalling.

Just a few days ago, in my own home, my sibling and I got into a pretty heated conversation about the upcoming election. She was all for McCain, and all against Obama. I have no problem having a favorite, but she didn't even have real reasons why she felt that way. She lets other people, like her friends, our parents, and her friends' parents think for her. When I asked her why she thought so badly of Obama, the only response that wasn't given to her by my parent, was given to her by her friend. She said that she was scared of Obama because some guy claims to predict big important things. What the Heck? She said Obama was a terrorist, and that he was an anti-Christ. I mean... Why would she say that when she hasn't researched? I'll tell you why... she doesn't think for herself. OUTRAGEOUS!
